It's so funny how I came across Jamaal. I was looking at photos of New York City because I am so aroused by the sky scrappers, but who isn't? As I was prowling Instagram, I came across his INSTAGRAM and was instantly a fan! I couldn't believe someone was actually so talented in landscaping photos. I've played around with shooting landscape, but I've never taken a photo so crisp and so unique as Jamaal does. With 5 years in the photography realm, he's created such a unique character about himself that cannot be described into words. His style is so eccentric and edgy with very cool tones that sets him apart from the rest. I can talk about him all day, but you'll have to see his INSTAGRAM [@NOSTALGIC_93] to really understand. I reached out to ask him about his influences as a photographer and here is what he had to say:
Crystal: When did you begin your photography career?
Jamaal: I’ve been my career in photography around 2013.
C: What is your greatest accomplishment thus far?
J: My greatest accomplishment I’ve achieved is getting featured on nbc news for best photo of the day.
C: Who/What inspires you?
J: A well known Britain photographer and videographer Philip Bloom
C: Which failure turned into a blessing in disguise?
J: When Wilhelmina Modeling Agency turned down my work because it wasn’t there style. It motivated me to shoot more and create new opportunities.
C: What is your favorite lens/camera to shoot with?
J: My Favorite lens preferably is 35mm 1.4 paired with a Canon EOS 1DX Mark II.
C: How do you educate yourself on taking better pictures?
J: I educate myself on taking better pictures by practicing and watching tutorials from YouTube.
C:Among your works, which is your favorite?
J: By far, landscape.
C: What is one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
J: Learning more of the settings on the camera.
C: Among the gadgets you own, is there something that you wish you hadn’t bought? Why?
J: No and why because I research what gear I need in order to create the shot I want.
C: What do you have to say to those who are chasing a photography career?
J: Be creative, shoot constantly and use social media or other platforms to promote your work.
